The disbursement of the Kwara State Fadama NG-CARES nterventions was flagged off Saturday with the distribution of Four Hundred and Eight (408) small ruminants (goats) going to One Hundred and Two (102) farmers drawn from Farmer Communities' Associations in Asa Local Government Area of the state.
The ceremony, which took place at the Council Headquarters, Afon was the commencement of the fulfilment of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's resolve to cushion the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the poor and vulnerable, as encapsulated in the objectives of the Nigeria Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus.
Representing the Kwara State Governor, the Technical Assistant on Agriculture, AbdulQuawiyu Olododo, explained that the intervention project, which covers crop and livestock inputs and assets, will last for two years and that Twenty Thousand farmers will benefit within the period.

Charging the beneficiaries on proper feeding and handling of the goats, the Technical Adviser assured them that the four goats received by each farmer and which are a fusion of a He-goat and 3 she-goats, will multiply with time if they are given good treatment.

Handing over the goats to the farmers, Hon. Olododo said that as the ruminants multiply, the economic status of the receivers will definitely improve, and this will have a great positive impact on society.
He stated that the intervention programme is community-based driven, hence, it was  brought to the beneficiaries directly, and has no place for favouritism and nepotism, highlighting

He highlighted agricultural programmes like tractorisation, rice farming scheme, input subsidy and others are some of the initiatives implemented by Governor AbdulRazaq to boost food production and enhance safe functioning of food supply in the state.

Earlier in his opening remark, the State Project Coordinator,  Dr. Busari Toyin Isiaka, described the event as a testimony of the governor's  sympathy for the poor and vulnerable, saying that the occasion spoke volume about the present administration's responsible and responsive gesture to the yearning of the masses.
The Coordinator, who noted that the governor has fulfilled his promise with this disbursement,  sought the cooperation of the beneficiaries in handling well the ruminants because good feedback from the beneficiaries will drive Government's encouragement towards subsequent disbursement.

He disclosed that the disbursement will continue in the other local government areas as the disbursement of crop inputs and assets will equally kick off next week.
Also speaking,  the Director, Veterinary Services Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Olugbon Abdulateef, said that  the ruminants are from a foreign environment and they will need to be acclimatised to their new domicile.

He encouraged them to call or visit the nearest vetinenary  clinic in case of any strange observations.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the governor and pledged their full support for his government, which, they said, has immensely transformed the state.

Present at the occasion was a staff of the Department of State Services, Miss Kadijat Aremu, to monitor the disbursement and flag off exercise.
Also in attendance were the Asst. Director, Livestock Services Dept, Ministry of  Agric, representative of the TIC Chairman, Asa LGA, Hon. Mohammad F.M. Weliweli, HOD (Agric), Desk Officer, Community Facilitators, Asa LGA, and members of Project Implementation Unit, Kwara State Fadama NG-CARES.
